Hello! 🄰 How are you all? šŸ¤—

I’m so excited for today’s review! šŸ˜†šŸ©· It was a book I expected to love, but it still totally surpassed my expectations. šŸ¤—šŸ¤—šŸ¤—

ā€œWishtressā€ by Nadine Brandes

She didnt ask to be the Wishtress.

Myrthe was born with the ability to turn her tears into wishes. But when a granted wish goes wrong, she is cursed: the next tear she sheds will kill her. She must travel to the Well to break the curse before it claims her life—and before the king's militairen find her. To survive the journey, Myrthe must harden her heart to keep herself from crying even a single tear.

He can stop time with a snap of his fingers.

Bastiaans powerful—and rare—Talent came in handy when he kidnapped the old king. Now the new king has a job for him: find the Wishtress and deliver her to the schloss. But Bastiaan needs a wish of his own. He gains Myrthes trust by promising to take her to the Well, but once he gets what he needs, he'll turn her in. As long as his growing feelings for the girl with a stone heart don't compromise him.

Their quest can end only one way: with her death.

Everyone seems to need a wish—the king, Myrthes cousin, the boy she thinks she loves. And theyre ready to bully, beg, and betray her for it. No one knows that to grant even one wish, Myrthe would pay with her life. And if she tells them about the curse . . . theyll just kill her anyway.

Oh my gosh, this was wonderful. 🄹🄰🩷 All the emotions I felt, all the characters, and certain parts of the prose–so beautiful! šŸ’• And the humor had me cracking up by myself while I read. 🤣🤣🤣

I particularly loved how this book had real things in it–real darkness that the characters faced, some of it by their own hands, and yet they kept to the light, even when they hardly knew how to. šŸ„¹šŸ¤—šŸ’• How noble they were, and how they fought so selflessly for each other. ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„

Also-do not get me started on how mad I was at a certain young woman’s father who shall not be named, but my goodness, I had to breathe through that chapter. šŸ‘€šŸ˜¤šŸ¤£

Favorite characters:

Myrthe ā›øļøšŸ’§

Runt āœØšŸ’š

Bastiaan āš”ļøāŒ›

Anouk šŸ’”šŸ‘‘

So, yeah, basically the main characters. 🤣🤣🤣 Bastiaan had to be my favorite though. šŸ«¶šŸ¼ I could rant about this book all day, but I’ll just say I loved him and how he was such a good, noble character, especially with how he took care of those he loved. 🄹🄰

CWs: With all that said, I do think that this book is best for about 16+. This is mostly due to some of the topics discussed in character backstory, and one more mature joke. (Nothing crass, but there was a bit of an innuendo, and the backstory dealt with sexual abuse and related topics.) MINOR SPOILER A character has his finger severed off, though this isn’t shown graphically.Ā Scene where torture of two characters is eminent and described, but it never actually occurs. Other similar threats and violence.

Have any of you read this one, or do you plan to? šŸ¤” I’d love to hear all your thoughts!!! šŸ¤—šŸ’• This one is definitely a new favorite of mine. šŸ’œ It was my second Brandes, and it certainly won’t be my last. šŸ˜ŒšŸ«¶šŸ¼šŸ’•

That’s all for now! šŸ˜‰ Until next time! šŸ‘‹šŸ¼
